In early 2016, a painting attributed to Vittore Carpaccio was sold at Sothebys in New York. We bought it at an inexpensive price because it looked unattractive due to poor restoration. We were able to see this, and proceeded to clear the picture.
During the cleaning process, the signature “Vittore Scarpazo” was found, half lost, but located in the author’s layer of the painting.
This painting turned out to be an early work of the great master. This is a world-class discovery. Thanks to Professor Peter Hamfrey for a detailed study and publication of our picture.
